Bringing home baby

Last year's accessory was a dog; this year's is a baby, quipped Tracey Ullman during a Chicago visit. She was referring to infants ubiquitous in Gucci and other ad campaigns and on the hips of models and actresses-Kate Moss, Claudia Schiffer and Liz Hurley among them, with Kate Hudson soon to join. Motherhood, it seems, is trendy. So we asked freelance writer Amy Tara Koch, mother of a wee one herself, to chat with retailers, manufacturers and mommies-in-the-trenches for tips on gear and gifts catering to the Gerber set-or, in the context of Ullman's joke, accessories to the accessory.
